1: Wall Mounted

Wall mounted displays might be the most common type of display in this hobby. LEGO minifigures aren’t very thick and are lightweight which is why they work so well on walls. Their small size allows for a lot of minifigures to be displayed on relatively small displays. An 18” x 24” (45cm x 60cm) frame can easily display fifty or more minifigures. Wall mounted options can be enclosed behind glass using a shadow box frame, or thinner frames allow for open displays that allow for easy access. Keep in mind that pretty much no one offers built-in lighting on wall mounted frames. However, these look good in any well-lit room and tend to be spouse approved due to their ability to blend in with other wall artwork.

2: Display Cases

Display cases are another popular option for housing your LEGO minifigure collection. There are many types and sizes of cases, and each has its own advantages. You have the option of buying a case specifically designed for minifigures or buying a general use display from any major retailer or hobby store. You can buy tall multi-shelf options that can hold hundreds of minifigures, or smaller acrylic cube displays to showcase a smaller collection.
The advantages of display cases:
- Holds a lot of minifigures for cheap
- Most are enclosed which keeps dust away
- Most have doors or lids for easy access.
- Easy to find. Many major retailers like Ikea have a wide variety of displays case options and local hobby stores have acrylic cube displays for all types of collectibles.
PRO-TIP: Use a display case with a custom-tiered minifigure stand to really show them off.

- Focus Laser Lab – some of the best looking cases ever
3: Individual Cases

Individual cases are the same as displays cases, but they are only designed to hold one minifigure. This is bit of a new trend in the hobby as some collectors are focusing more on a smaller collection with high value minifigures. These types of displays are by no means expensive (usually just a couple of dollars each), but they are considerably more expensive than larger cases that might cost ten cents per minifigure to display.
There are several manufacturers making individual cases that are specifically sized to fit a LEGO minifigure. They are the most protective display option, and their precise size makes them look very intentional and professional.

4: Open Vs. Enclosed

One major consideration when buying a LEGO minifigure display is whether you want them enclosed by glass/acrylic or not.
Pros of enclosed:
- Minifigures are protected from collecting dust. They are little dust magnets, but they aren’t terribly hard to clean periodically.
- If your figs are highly valuable, then we recommend keeping them enclosed. You can even consider UV protection glass (AKA museum glass) to nearly eliminate fading and protect the minifigure.
Cons of enclosed:
- They aren’t easy to access. If you want to rearrange them periodically, or use them in a MOC, then it’s not going to be as convenient or quick compared to open displays.
- Typically, they are more expensive than open displays.
Pros of open displays:
- Ease of access. If you are building your collection and need to re-arrange your minifigures, then open displays make this considerably quicker.
- Typically, they are cheaper than enclosed displays.
Cons of open displays:
- They are exposed to dust and indoor elements. For more expensive minifigures, this can be a deal breaker.
- If they are displayed in a bright area, they will fade (this can also happen with enclosed cases… so best to keep them out of direct sunlight).
5: Tiered Display Cases

One item that can often get overlooked with a display case is putting your minifigures onto a tiered display stand. These stands create a vertical spacing that allows you to easily see all minifigures if they are multiple rows deep.
You can easily create your own tiered stand using LEGO, or if you want a cleaner minimalist look you can opt for custom made acrylic stands that keep your attention to the minifigures.

6: Built-in Lighting

There is a good change that your minifigure collection is being showcased in your hobby room or near your home desk. These are areas that tend to have darker lighting which means you won’t be seeing your minifigure collection… especially at night. If that’s your case, we recommend considering built-in lighting options to really showcase your collection properly. You don’t really get this option with wall displays (but there are other ways to light it), but with display cases some manufacturers do include built-in lighting options that are worth considering.

7: Expandable Displays

As you continue to build your collection, you will need more and larger display solutions. One thing to consider is getting cases that allow for easier expandability. Some display cases are designed to interlock so that you can grow the collection easily. Others provide a wide range of sizes that all utilize the same design. This way your display with thirty figs still looks cohesive with the display that holds sixty.
- LEGO – The official case features a door for easy access and they can be combined.
- Painter Place Home Co – easily grow your display with a unique interlocked design
- Minifigures Display – Many themes covered and standardized sizing allows for easy growth
- Shop POP Displays – Lots of sizes all with the same design ensure you can fit a display anywhere
